This piece is an antique Indian dowry chest, traditionally known as a Pitara or Pataro. Originating primarily from northwestern regions like Gujarat and Rajasthan, these heirloom chests were heavily ornamented to transport a bride's valuable textiles, jewelry, and dowry items.
